Expo 2020 represents an extraordinary opportunity for the United Nations to engage millions of people and create lasting engagement, for action and impact. The UN Pavilion, under the title “We the Peoples, Shaping our Future Together” will invite visitors into the UN Pavilion telling a powerful story of the value of multilateralism.
With the convening power of the United Nations and the universality of its work, the UN Pavilion and the programs will highlight the ideas and experiences that unite us. The UN Pavilion will inform, inspire and engage visitors to take impactful action towards a thriving future for people and planet.
Due to the coronavirus, Expo 2020 is expected to be postponed to 1 October 2021 – 31 March 2022.
The UN will host events and activities in connection to the International Days observed during Expo 2020 in collaboration with Member states and other partners. Live events will engage visitors with the work of the UN through workshops, performances and installations as well as through dialogues and conversations around topics related to SDGs and beyond. More information on this will be available shortly.
To showcase the value of coming together and international cooperation, the UN programme of events and activities during Expo will reflect our strong partnerships with our Member States, the private sector and civil society.

Expo 2020 Dubai, being held under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, will open to the public from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.
World Expos play a unique role in convening a global stage for new ideas and technologies, engaging people, and spurring support for global priorities across national boundaries. As the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region, Expo 2020 will host over 200 pavilions, which are to include 192 national pavilions.
In February 2019, the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres accepted the invitation from the Government of the United Arab Emirates to participate, welcoming it as an opportunity to highlight the positive impact of the United Nations across the globe, and the need for multilateralism to tackle humanity’s biggest challenges.

From January 2020, which starts the 75th anniversary year of the Organization, the UN will work with partners to initiate dialogues within and across borders, sectors and generations. The aim is to reach as many people as possible: to listen to their hopes and fears; learn from their experiences; and empower them to think and act globally.
