The Outreach Division builds support for the United Nations by fostering dialogue with global constituencies such as civil society, the entertainment industry, media, academia, educators, students, and libraries.

Education Outreach

UN Academic Impact

  • We work to align institutions of higher education with the United Nations in furthering the realization of the purposes and mandate of the Organization through activities and research in a shared culture of intellectual social responsibility. This global network continues to expand. See more details, including the UNAI’s 10 underlying principles, the list of current members, and how to join.

NGO Relations and Liason Service

  • We develop partnerships with civil society around the world to enhance their interaction with and understanding of the work of the Organization. It We currently collaborates with 1,500 NGOs associated with the Department and reach out to and exchange information with civil society on UN issues.

Sales and Marketing of United Nations Publications

  • The United Nations publishes approximately 500 new titles a year on topics such as peace and security, human rights, the global economy, international law, environment and climate change. UN Publications can be purchased at shop.un.org and are also available in digital format in the United Nations iLibrary.

Publications and Editorial

Knowledge Solutions and Design

  • We develop and provides visual branding for UN global communications and strengthen internal communications through the UN intranet, iSeek.

Visitors Services

  • Each year nearly half a million people from around the world visit the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The UN Visitors Centre manages the guided tours, public inquiries and speakers’ bureau briefings to provide memorable and meaningful visits.

UN Exhibits

  • The United Nations Headquarters in New York hosts new photographic and multimedia exhibits every month. The exhibits are free to the public and feature issues related to sustainable development, human rights, and peace and security. Previous exhibits are at the UN Online Gallery.

Dag Hammarskjöld Library

  • The Dag Hammarskjöld Library provides research and information to support the work of United Nations Member States and helps the public find UN information through online services, and a global depository library network. The Library provides access to thousands of print and digital resources, covering all geographic regions and many languages, and provides tools to make UN information more accessible to all.

The Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth

  • The Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth engages and partners with young people, Member States, civil society, the private sector, media, academia and other stakeholders in support of advancing the global youth agenda, and specifically the UN Youth Strategy: Youth 2030 launched by the Secretary-General in 2018.
